Step 7 — Submit your application in person

Submit Your Application at the Consulate General
The final step in the process of obtaining a U.S. nonimmigrant visa is to submit your application at the Consulate General, and interview with the consular officer. The Consulate is located at the Museumplein 19, in Amsterdam. The entrance however, is around the corner, in the Gabriël Metsustraat.
Before leaving for Amsterdam, ask yourself the following questions:
- Have I paid the non-refundable application fee in cash at a branch of the ABN-Amro bank, and remembered my original computer-printed deposit slip? Or, if transferred, do I have my original bank statement, showing the transfer? Or, do I have my Dutch PIN-card with me?
- Have I filed my online DS-160 visa application form and printed my confirmation page?
- Have I had the correct sized color photograph taken?
- Have I remembered to bring all of my required supporting documentation?
- Have I prepared an A5 size envelope with my own address and €7,50 (01JAN2012) in stamps on it, for the Consulate to return my passport by registered mail?
- Have I scheduled an appointment through the call center and remembered to note the correct time, date and confirmation Personal Identification Number(PIN)?
- Have I read the Consulate's Security Notice? (Please leave those laptops and cell phones at home, if you possibly can. Bringing these items may delay your entry into the Consulate as you cannot bring them into the consular building.)
If your answer to each of these questions is "Yes", you're ready to submit your application and for your interview with the consular officer!
Contact and visiting information for non-immigrant visa applicants
Please remember that consular officers must often process large numbers of applicants, and so are unable to conduct lengthy interviews with each person. Be prepared to answer questions about your job, long-term plans, family, and host in the United States, so you can communicate as much to the officer during your interview as possible. It may even be helpful to rehearse your interview with a friend or family member on the day before your appointment.
We aim to make your visit to the Consulate General as brief and pleasant as possible. Depending on visa demand, however, applicants sometimes spend over two hours at the Consulate General on the day of their interviews. Please provide yourself ample time for your visa interview.
We regret that due to the size of our waiting room, we are unable to accommodate friends or family members accompanying you who are not applying for visas, with the exception of parents of minor children.
We hope you enjoy your visit to the United States. We look forward to having you here!
