CONSUL GENERAL SPEECHES
Remarks at the Opening Game of the Amsterdam Admirals in commemoration of Dutch American Friendship Day, Amsterdam Arena, April 20, 2007
Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen: Welcome to the opening game of the Amsterdam Admirals’ 2007 home schedule!
The Admirals are dedicating tonight’s game to Dutch American Friendship Day. It was on April 19, 1782 that the Dutch government recognized the United States of America as an independent nation. John Adams, our first Ambassador to the Netherlands and our second President, hung the American flag on a house in The Hague, and by doing so established the first U.S. Embassy anywhere in the world. Over the past 225 years our two countries have supported each other in times of need, and developed lasting ties of friendship.
So thank you for coming this evening and showing your support for Dutch American friendship. And for supporting Amsterdam’s “home team.” On behalf of Ambassador Roland Arnall, I wish the Admirals and the Rhein Fire good luck this evening and hope you enjoy the game.
