Passport Applications in Person
First Time Passport Applicants
If you are a U.S. citizen, but have never been issued a U.S. passport, you must apply in person, by appointment, during the American citizen services opening hours at the American Consulate General in Amsterdam. The following is required:
- Make an appointment.;
- The DS-11 application form filled out but NOT signed. You will sign in the presence of the Consular officer;
- Proof of U.S. citizenship — please see our section on Acquisition of U.S. Citizenship for further information on what documents are acceptable to prove you are an American citizen;
- Proof of identity (this can be any valid, government issued ID, e.g. foreign passport or driver's license, ID card, military ID or U.S. driver's license);
- Two photos (5cm x 5cm, white background);
- The appropriate fee.

Processing time
Passports are printed in the United States with a secure photo-digitized image of the bearer. You should allow for up to 10 working days for your application to be processed.
