Welcome to American Citizen Services

Nearly 40,000 American citizens live and work in The Netherlands.  Many more visit every year.  The Department of State, through its Consulate General in Amsterdam, provides a range of routine and emergency services for Americans who live in The Netherlands or who are just visiting.

The American, or U.S. Citizen Services (ACS) Unit’s assistance includes but is not limited to, Passport services, Notary services, and Consular Reports of Births Abroad. Some passport services are available by mail, other services require a visit to the Consulate General in Amsterdam. Visits require you to set up an appointment.  This way time will be reserved for you and our staff can help you more efficiently. Below you will find how to set up such an appointment. The Consulate General also assists in emergencies, including deaths, arrests and crisis situations.

Our services are available by appointment only!

As of February 15, 2008, American citizens and other clients needing to visit the Consulate General to apply for or renew passports, obtain Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, apply for extra visa pages in U.S. passports, receive notarial services (including those related to the Social Security Administration), or receive general advice or other services, must make appointments in advance to receive these services.  Our hours of operation remain the same for American Citizen Services, and we are scheduling appointments daily from 8:30 AM until 11:30 AM.  For details, or to make an appointment, please click here.

In case of an emergency requiring immediate attention, please see our contact information.

After making the appointment, please do not forget to complete all application forms and to verify what documents you must bring with you.  For this information, please select the service you require on the left hand side of the page.
