Consul General Julie A. Ruterbories delivered remarks and, together with the Mayor of Aalsmeer, P.J. M. Litjens, unveiled a new monument to commemorate the crew of “Hell’s Fury,” a U.S. B-26 Marauder of the 386th Bomb Group, shot down over Aalsmeer during World War II.  The monument, which is situated in a new suburb, was designed by Joop Kok and depicts how the aircraft crashed to the ground after being struck by anti-aircraft fire.  City officials, representatives of Stichting Crash and Stichting Nederland-Vereenigde Staten, as well as neighbors from the community were present for the ceremony which took place on Dutch Memorial Day.
