Red Ball Express

September 24, 2011 - Consul General Julie Ruterbories together with the Mayor of Harlemmermeer and Director of the World War II Reenactment Society, CRASH, delivered remarks at a World War II Reenactment, "the Red Ball Express." This annual event is focused on the supply lines that provided needed fuel and ammunition to enable the Allies to liberate the Netherlands in 1945. More than 75 vintage jeeps, trucks and motorcycles dating back to World War II took part, retracing the famous routes taken by WWII allies and resistance fighters nearly seven decades ago in their effort stamp out tyranny. Nearly 70 years later, the Dutch continue to honor the American men and women who gave their lives for freedom in WWII.
