Windmill at Eerde
September 17, 2011 - Consul Stuart Wilson donned an authentic World War II uniform and attended WWII commemoration events held in Eerde, a small, rural village in the province of Brabant. Back in 1944 Eerde was the scene of heavy fighting during Operation Market Garden. The village was liberated by troops of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army. The town’s historic windmill was heavily damaged as a result of fighting and has only recently been beautifully restored. Consul Wilson’s ride, a 1944 Willy’s MB jeep, was provided by history enthusiasts of Yank Reenactment, a Dutch living history team. Joining in the ceremonies at Eerde were several American World War II veterans.
