April 14, 2012 - Consul Stuart Wilson unveiled the bust of American painter George Hitchcock (1850–1913) who lived in the small village of Egmond aan de Hoef at the turn of the last century. Local residents organized the creation, erection and subsequent unveiling of the noted American painter who moved to the Netherlands during the "Dutch Utopia" period when American artists arrived en masse to study Dutch painting and culture. He also praised the villagers for their initiative and appreciation of an American artist.
