  • The Louise Smit Gallery (contemporary jewellery) in Amsterdam: http://www.louisesmit.nl/frameset.php?language=en  will open an exhibition on January 15 of work by students of the Cranbrook Academy of Art.

  • On Sunday, January 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., American author Joyce Hackett will give a sermon relating to her novel at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Netherlands, at Keizersgracht 566 in the Canal District of Amsterdam.  Unitarian Universalism is a uniquely American established religion and many major figures of the 19th century in both suffrage and abolition—Douglass, Garrison, Anthony, Lucy Stone, as well as Emerson, Thoreau, Margaret Fuller, and Melville—were either a Unitarian or a Universalist.  The two denominations merged in 1961.  A few period (suffrage and abolitionist) songs will be sung by a small choir.  The service may be of interest to American history aficionados.
