NIV Frequently Asked Questions

Questions? Read the most frequently asked below before contacting us

  • Administrative Processing

    Administrative Processing

    • Some visa applications require further administrative processing, which takes additional time after the visa applicant’s interview by a consular officer. Applicants are advised of this requirement when they apply. Most administrative processing is resolved within 60 days of the visa interview. When administrative processing is required, the timing will vary based on individual circumstances of each case. Visa applicants are reminded to apply early for their visa, well in advance of the anticipated travel date.

Please don't contact us before the 60 days are over.

  • ESTA / Visa Waiver Program

    ESTA / Visa Waiver Program

    • Can I travel on the VWP / with an ESTA?
The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables citizens of participating countries, such as the Netherlands, to travel to the U.S. for tourism or business for 90 days or less without obtaining a U.S. visa.

I'm denied ESTA what should I do?
You will need to apply for a visa. Follow the instructions here.

      Changes to ESTA / VWP?

Dutch visitors traveling to the United States are required to be in possession of a Dutch passport valid for the intended period of stay in the U.S. So your DUTCH passport only needs to be valid until you leave, not longer. The six months validity rule normally does not apply to you as a Dutch Passport holder. For more information on other passports see

      Expired Passport, Valid Visa
If you have an expired passport with a valid U.S. visa, the expiration of the passport has no effect on the validity of the visa, provided that the visa page is not damaged in any way.  The traveler may present two passports; one which fulfills the visa requirement and the other the passport requirement
