The U.S. Citizen Services Unit’s assistance includes but is not limited to, Passport services, Notary services, and Consular Reports of Births Abroad. The Consulate General also assists in emergencies, including deaths, arrests and crisis situations.

The U.S. Citizen Services Unit will not be able to answer questions about visas for the Netherlands, nor for the United States. For visa information for U.S. citizens, please check the State Department Travel Website (Learn about your destination).

Important Notice on U.S. citizens entering or departing the U.S.

According to Section 215 of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1185), it is illegal for an American citizen to enter or leave the U.S. on anything other than an American passport. This applies to dual citizens as well, meaning that persons holding both American and another country's citizenship must enter and depart from the United States on a valid U.S. passport. This applies to children as well as adults.

Visiting the Consulate General

  • We are open Monday through Friday 8:30 to 11:30. Visits for services are by appointment only. Every instructions page has a link to the appointment website.

    Passport pick-up: Monday through Friday 2:30 to 3:30 PM, (holidays excepted). No appointment is necessary provided you bring a print out of the e-mail informing you your passport is ready for collection.
